Cote de Nuits-Villages
The Côte de Nuits is the northernmost of the two districts of Burgundy's Côte d'Or. In general, the Pinot Noir wines of the Côte de Nuits, due to the high content of chalky clay in the soils, are fuller, earthier, more complex and more tannic than those of the Côte de Beaune. Côte de Nuits Villages are firm, with strong fruit characteristics and a medium body; traditionally defined by ripe black and red berry flavors as well as a classically earthy, rich and aromatic Pinot Noir bouquet. Its excellent balance of ripe tannins and elegant yet concentrated fruit result in silky, youthfully approachable wine which age quite gracefully over the medium term.
