Created in 2011 from the IGT Sicilia appellation, the DOC (Denomination of Controlled Origin) Sicilia covers all the vineyards of Sicily, iconic island of Italy and the largest in the Mediterranean.
The DOC Sicilia designation protects the island's indigenous grape varieties to ensure high quality wines with a deep connection to their terroir. Zibibbo (or Muscat of Alexandria), Cataratto, Carricante, Nero d'Avola and Perricone are found among other international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Muller-Thurgau.
The DOC Sicilia appellation guarantees excellent wines, respectful of Sicilian winemaking techniques and traditions. By certifying the quality of 26 different grape varieties, the DOC Sicilia appellation guarantees a varied range of wines in the colours of this authentic and eclectic island. Red, white, rosé, still and sparkling, the DOC Sicilia covers different styles of wines that all tend to express the typicality of the Sicilian terroir.
The reds are made in a fruity style to be drunk young and evolve from medium to full-bodied. The best are more concentrated and complex. The white varieties are vinified in a non-woody style, giving pride of place to citrus and stone fruit aromas.
