Description
A Stunning Dry Chenin from Vouvray
It was in 1928 that Victor Huet and his son Gaston founded Domaine Huet, which has become one of the reference producers of the Vouvray appellation in the Loire Valley. Today, the estate is recognized around the world for its age-worthy, high-quality Chenin Blanc. The three main vineyards of the domaine - Le Haut-Lieu, Clos du Bourg and Le Mont - are situated on the Premiere Cote, believed to have the ideal terroir for Vouvray grands crus. Today, Sarah & Hugo Hwang own Domaine Huet, carrying on the legacy built by the Huet family with the help of long-time vineyard manager Jean-Bernard Berthome.
Vouvray is situated in the region of Tourain on the northern banks of the Loire River. Here, Chenin Blanc is the flagship grape variety. Its high natural acidity and bright aromas allow this grape to produce wines with surprising aging potential and an ability to evolve beautifully over time spent in the bottle. In Tourain, the terroir is characterized by very distinct tuffeau soils. This is a kind of porous and soft limestone, which was formed 90 million years ago.
Gaston Huet has always believed that the 6-hectare Clos du Bourg vineyard is the best terroir in all of Vouvray. Here, shallow and stony soils offer great drainage, creating powerful and concentrated wines. The Domaine Huet Clos du Bourg Sec 2019 is a bright and beautiful biodynamic Chenin Blanc, offering a dark-toned nose of ripe stone fruit and tropical fruit, as well as mineral, earthy and yeasty nuances. On the palate, this is a full-bodied and very round wine, with a very silky texture and great finesse. An excellent wine to drink young or to keep for several years. A stunning Chenin, not to be missed!
