Description
A Stunning Terroir Driven Grand Cru
Meo-Camuzet is a legendary Domaine in the Cote d’Or. Located in Vosne Romanee in Burgundy, the winery has become a benchmark for Grand Crus and Premier Crus since its inception in 1981. Today, Meo-Camuzet is run by fourth generation Jean-Nicolas Meo, and produces six beautiful Grand Crus, 10 spectacular Premier Crus and numerous terroir driven village wines. Typically refined yet concentrated and intense, Meo Camuzet wines are ideal to add to your cellar collection.
Meo-Camuzet’s land is located in some of the best crus of Burgundy and was passed down from original owner Etienne Camuzet. Although no wine was made from the family until many years later, Etienne was a politician and smart winegrower, trusting his land to experienced sharecroppers while he was working in Paris. Those trusted sharecroppers included the famous Henri Jayer, Christian Faurois and his family who worked on the vineyards for many years. These brilliant winemakers mentored Jean-Nicolas Meo years later, after he chose to run the business and make wine for the first time with the family’s vines.
Pinot Noir is the only variety permitted in the Echezeaux Grand Cru. Generally, wines from this area are terroir driven, bold and benefit with age. The Meo-Camuzet vines are located at the top of Echezeaux planted in clay, gravel, marl and limestone rich soils. The soil itself becomes finer mid-slope, allowing for better drainage for the vines. The Meo-Camuzet Echezeaux Grand cru Les Rouges du Bas Domaine 2015 is enchanting with a bouquet of spice, underbrush, prune and earthy notes that evolve to leather and mushroom with age. The palate is generally fuller in body with plenty of tannins and a mineral driven backbone. Enjoy its lovely acidity that is harmoniously integrated with notes of cherry, blueberry and earth.
