Description
Classic California Cabernet Thrives in Napa Valley's Larkmead Vineyard
Larkmead Vineyards is one of the oldest family owned estates in Napa Valley. Founded in 1895, and now under the stewardship of proprietors Cam and Kate Solari Baker, they look to preserve and accentuate the stature, personality, and history the California estate. The 110 acres of land have a beautifully diverse set of soils and the vineyards experience great diurnal shifts for optimal growing conditions. The land is divided into three blocks where seven different varieties grow. One block is made up entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon, the heart of their wine program. This particular block has the rarest of soil profiles set atop the highest point on the property, allowing for their signature wine to dazzle. The second block is Merlot dominant with a bit of Sauvignon Blanc, while the third block grows six of the seven varieties planted. Larkmead practices sustainable viticulture and holds the Napa Green Certified Winery since 2011 and the Napa Green Land certificate since 2017.
This Cabernet Sauvignon highlights the diversity of the estate. The grapes are sourced from two blocks, which blend young and old vines and two differing terroirs. The nose typically displays the signature Larkmead aromas of cassis, menthol, dried herbs, black tea, and cedar with subtle amounts of graphite and licorice, while the palate offers dark fruit and forest floor while an earthy finish lingers. Enjoy now or wait an additional decade and taste the evolution of this ageable wine.
