Description

A Bold Pinot Noir Wine with a Bright Acidity

The history of Kosta Browne Winery began in 1997, when it was first established by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne. The estate now produces a line of Pinot Noir wines from the Sonoma region of California. The grapes for these award-winning wines are sourced from the most prized terroirs of three prestigious appellations – the Sonoma Coast, the Russian River Valley and the Santa Lucia Highlands. The portfolio of Kosta Browne offers a wonderful selection of single-varietal Pinot Noir wines, including appellation cuvées and single-vineyard wines from both family-owned vineyards and the estate's own parcels. The Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2014 is made from grapes that are sourced from various vineyards in the Russian River Valley appellation. Cool air from the Pacific Coast follows the Russian River inland, resulting in a fog that keeps the vines cool at night and protects them from the harsh daytime temperatures in the summer. This results in a slow, gradual ripening of the berries and makes for more evolved flavors in the wine. The wine was fermented in a combination of stainless steel open tops, concrete open tops and wood open tops, with 8% of the fruit fermented in whole clusters. The wine was then aged 47% in new French oak for 15 months and 5% in concrete tanks for 10 months.

When tasted, the Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2014 by Kosta Browne Winery offers plenty of ripe summer fruit aromas on the nose, including raspberries, blueberries and cranberries. These are complemented by subtle hints of shaved nutmeg and burnt orange peel. On the palate, this Pinot Noir wine is intense and bold, revealing a bright acidity and a smooth mouthfeel. A focused and very daring wine, this California wine remains on the palate, becoming more intense with each passing second.
