Description

A fine and delicate Second Wine from Pauillac

The estate

In the land of Batges at the gates of PauillacChateau Lynch Bages is a property that has marked the history of the Medoc. While the Bages terroir has been known for its quality since the 16th century, it was only in the 18th century that it became famous. With an Irishman by the name of Thomas Lynch at the helm of the estate, Chateau Lynch-Bages was recognized at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. The estate was acquired by the J-M Cazes family right after the Second World War. Chateau Lynch-Bages is today considered one of the most important references of the Pauillac appellation. Echo de Lynch-Bages is the Second Wine of the estate.

The vineyard

Planted in the Garonnais gravel soils of Pauillac, the 100-hectare vineyard of Chateau Lynch-Bages is today under the direction of Nicolas Labenne. Satellite technologies are employed for accurate plot division of the vineyard, as a way to preserve the wine heritage of the property.

The vintage

While the winter was marked by heavy rainfall, the mild weather during the spring favored the development of the vines. Despite a few rainy days and a drop in temperatures at the end of April, the vineyard cycle was 3 weeks ahead of schedule. The good climatic conditions of May favored an even flowering. The dry and sunny summer was characterized by great thermal amplitudes, ensuring the optimal ripening of the grapes. In mid-August, some stormy days helped the fruit ripen. The hot, dry conditions that followed allowed for the harvest of small, perfectly concentrated grapes.

Vinification and aging

Echo de Lynch-Bages 2020 is the first vintage vinified in the new facilities. Manual harvest with sorting in the vineyard. Two thirds of the malolactic fermentation took place in vats and one third in barrels. Aging lasted 12 months in second-fill barrels.

The blend

The Echo de Lynch-Bages 2020 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%).

The tasting

Color

Bright in color, this wine is adorned with subtle purplish garnet reflections.

Nose

The expressive nose reveals gourmet aromas.

Palate

The palate seduces with its fruity aromas (redcurrant and raspberry), its roundness, its elegance and its tannins of great finesse.
