Description
A Focused and Energetic Chardonnay by Domaine Leflaive
Since 1717, the Leflaive family has been pioneering viticulture in Burgundy. Claude Leflaive purchased plots in Puligny-Montrachet and became one of the first vignerons on record in this area. Years later in 1920, Joseph Leflaive founded Domaine Leflaive after purchasing prime parcels when many growers were selling land after the phylloxera epidemic. Replanting with phylloxera-resistant American rootstock and grafting exclusive Chardonnay grapes, Joseph set the family up for great success.
In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive took the domaine to new heights through her pioneering dedication and respect for nature through biodynamics farming. Anne-Claude converted Domaine Leflaive to strictly biodynamic farming and watched the vines thrive. By taking out chemical fertilizers and pesticides, the health of the vineyard and quality of wines greatly improved. Today, Domaine Leflaive is a benchmark producer for white Burgundy wine and a model for biodynamic wineries.
Located in the Cote de Beaune, the appellation of Puligny-Montrachet is known for its exceptional Chardonnay. The soils in this area are typically Burgundian with plenty of limestone creating a mineral backbone in the appellation wines. The Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet Village 2017 is made from seven select parcels across Puligny-Montrachet. The wine is fermented and aged in oak casks, 18 percent of which is new, and then aged for an additional six months in tank. Bursting with notes of apple, lemon and honeysuckle this wine is ripe and complex. The palate is energetic with plenty of stone fruit, citrus, spice and minerality leading to a long and focused finish.
