Description
A Biodynamic Vouvray with Citrus and Chamomile Aromas
Located in the Vouvray appellation of the Loire region, Domaine Huet was founded by Victor Huet in 1928. The estate has since then been extended to include 30 hectares, and is managed by Victor's son Gaston. Huet's vineyard area is divided into three plots, each with its own unique micro-terroir: Haut-Lieu, Mont and Clos du Bourg. One of the pioneers of biodynamic vine growing in the Loire, all of the vineyards at Domaine Huet are managed following the natural rhytm of the planets. The wines of Domaine Huet are produced from Vouvray's flagship grape, Chenin Blanc. These terroir-driven cuvees are characterized by a remarkable subtlety and finesse. The Vouvray Haut Lieu Sec 2017 is a 100% Chenin Blanc wine produced from the 9-hectare Le Haut-Lieu vineyard, purchased by the Huet family in 1928. This oldest estate parcel is also considered to have the deepest and richest soils out of the three, with clay and a high quantity of limestone. The vines are managed biodynamically and harvested by hand. They are fermented using only natural yeast and then matured in a combination of tanks and large old foudres. The Vouvray Haut Lieu Sec 2017 reveals in the glass a pretty golden yellow color. On the nose, this biodynamic Vouvray exudes charming aromas of rose petals, pomegranate seeds and citrus fruit, especially lemon. The palate is very fruit-forward with a light and airy attack. Flavors of chamomile and jasmine mingle with citrus, leading into a long finish marked by bitter grapefruit. This wine will make a beautiful pairing with fish or poultry in a creamy sauce, as well as creamy cheeses.
