Domaine des Ardoisieres : Silice 2016

A Refreshing Organic White Wine with Beautiful Minerality

Situated in the French region of Savoie near the Swiss border, Domaine des Ardoisieres reigns over 17 acres of vines, many of which were planted during Roman times and cleared anew in 1998. Since 2005, Champagne native Brice Omont has been at the helm of winemaking at the domain and is now considered one of the most innovative and exciting winemakers in France. The vines of Domaine des Ardoisieres are planted in steep, rocky slopes and managed with biodynamic practices. The Domaine des Ardoisieres Silice 2016 White is a single-varietal white wine made from Jacquere grapes, sourced not from the Domaine des Ardoisieres estate vineyards, but from a vineyard in the nearby village of St. Pierre d'Albigny. The vines are planted on west-facing slopes of schist soil, clay and ardoise, a type of hard, black schist native to this region. This wine is classified under the appellation IGP Vin des Allobroges. The vines are certified organic by ECOCERT. In the production of this wine, only indigenous yeasts are used. One-third of the wine is vinified in barriques of 2-3 previous uses, while the rest is vinified in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 8 months and lightly filtered before bottling.

The Domaine des Ardoisieres Silice 2016 White presents a bright yellow color in the glass, with green reflections. On the nose, this white wine is crisp and bright, offering notes of citrus and green apple. On the palate, the wine continues to be refreshing and smooth, expressing subtle notes of white flowers and an amazing crystalline purity, with bitter almond perceivable toward the finish. The Domaine des Ardisueres Silice 2016 White echoes its terraced vineyards of origin through its bold, stony and mineral character.
