Description
A Red Rhone Blend with Layer of Ripe Fruit Flavor
Domaine de la Janasse was born when Aime Sabon took over his father's vineyard property, buiding upon it his own cellar in 1973. Throughout the years, the estate has expanded from an original 15 hectares to the more than 90 hectares it includes today through the purchase of carefully selected plots. Aime's son, Christophe Sabon, joined his father in the family business in 1991, followed by Aime's daughter Isabelle in 2001. The Cotes du Rhone 2015 is a blend of 40% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, 20% Carignan (believed to be over 60 years old), 15% Syrah and 5% Cinsault, harvested from a 23-hectare plot located east of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The vines are cultivated without the use of pesticides or insecticides, with organic manure. Herbicides are not used either, in order to keep the soil more ventilated and flexible. After a manual harvest, the fruit is vinified with a 80% removal of the stems. Maceration takes place for a period of 12 to 15 days, followed by 6 to 9 months of maturation in vat.The Cotes du Rhone 2015 from Domaine de la Janasse offers a beautiful nose, resplendent with notes of crushed strawberries and blackberries, black cherries and hints of licorice, along with a touch of garrigue. On the palate, this red Rhone blend reveals moderate tannins, a perfectly achieved balance, and layer upon layer of ripe fruit flavor. A wine meant to be consumed in its youth, which will pair beautifully with grilled meat or a stewed tomato sauce.
