An intense and voluptuous fine red wine from Margaux
The estate
At the heart of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux is Chateau Marquis de Terme. The origins of the property date back to the 15th century, but the estate took on its current name in the 18th century, when it was acquired by the Marquis de Terme. Since 1935, the Seneclauze family has owned this Margaux Grand Cru.
The vineyard
The 40-hectare vineyard of the Chateau Marquis de Terme is planted in deep gravel with thick quartz and quartzites, typical of the Margaux appellation. Certain plots have more clay. The vineyard is managed on a parcel-by-parcel basis and has earned the High Environmental Value 3 certification.
The vintage
The 2019 vintage was one of climatic contrasts. The winter started cold and the temperatures increased to induce an early budding. The cooler spring then slowed down the vine cycle. The very hot and dry summer slowed down the ripening process, which was later revived during a rainy and sunny September. The grapes were able to reach perfect maturity, thanks to a longer ripening cycle.
The winemaking
Manual harvest in crates. Thorough sorting at the winery. Vatting by gravity. No pumps. Vinification in barrels, concrete tanks, stainless steel and thermo-regulated oak vat.
The aging
Aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels. 50% new oak.
The blend
Cabernet sauvignon (60%), merlot (33%), petit verdot (7%).
The tasting
Tasted as a wine future, the Chateau Marquis de Terme 2019 displays an intense ruby color. The nose offers a complex bouquet of floral notes (violet), menthol and licorice, with delicate spicy touches. On the palate, the attack is voluptuous. Gradually, the vintage reveals its structure with firm tannins and a nice ripeness. With its great aromatic depth, the palate is quite delicious, evolving notes of juicy fruit and sweet spices. The wine lingers long on a finish full of freshness. The Chateau Marquis de Terme 2019 is undoubtedly one of the great vintages of the property.
