A stylish and great Sauternes from an exceptional vintage

With the Chateau La Tour Blanche 2017, the Sauternes 1st Classified Growth Chateau La Tour Blanche predicts that 2017 will be a great vintage indeed for Sauternes.

Although the frost of April that affected the entire Bordeaux region did not spare the estate’s vineyard, the climatic conditions that followed allowed the grapes to reach an optimal stage of phenolic maturity. The onset of Botrytis at the beginning of September, along with perfect weather conditions late in the season allowed for an ideal development of noble rot. Despite the very limited yields (6hl / ha), the grape harvest already showed signs of great sweet wines.

The Chateau La Tour Blanche 2017 is definitely in line with the great vintages of this legendary Sauternes Premier Cru.

The classic blend contains 85% Semillon, 13% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle, a fragile grape that always goes into the blend of the estate’s Grand Vin.

Aromatic intensity, a perfectly balanced palate, a freshness on the finish – these are the qualities that make the Chateau La Tour Blanche 2017 a great Sauternes. The olfactory palette reveals a rare complexity, with initial notes of opulent vanilla and exotic fruits that evolve on the freshness of citrus. Generous and smooth, the palate expresses a great density of texture, perfectly balanced by the acidity of citrus notes, completing the finish with a freshness and elegance necessary for a great Sauternes wine. A magnificent Sauternes that is already very expressive in the brilliance of its youth and which promises an extraordinary capacity for age.

    Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2017 la Tour Blanche gives up notions of cedar chest and baking bread over a core of white pepper, apple pie and peach preserves with a waft of lemon zest. The palate gives up a lot of spice in the mouth with plenty of racy freshness to support, finishing long and zesty.
