Chateau du Tertre : Tertre Blanc 2020

An aromatic and elegant Vin de France white wine

The estate

Chateau du Tertre is a Margaux Grand Cru located on the left bank of Bordeaux. Since its acquisition in late 1997 by Eric Albada Jelgersma, considerable investments have been made in order to bring out the best of this exceptional terroir with wines of very rare consistency. Since January 2021, Chateau du Tertre has been run by the Helfrich family, who manages the trading company Les Grands Chais de France.

The vineyard

Produced as a Vin de France, the 2020 Chateau du Tertre white comes from a 3.86 hectare vineyard. The terroir is made up of light gravel and deep sand soils which lend, even in hot and dry conditions, a characteristic freshness to this wine's signature.

The vinification and aging

Manual harvest. Manual and optical sorting. Harvest crushed, but not destemmed. Inert pressing with selection of the first press juices. Fermentation took place first in stainless steel vats and then in barrels. Aging lasted 6 months in 225-liter and 500-liter barrels. Aging on lees with stirring once a week.

The blend

The Chateau du Tertre Blanc 2020 is made from a blend of Gros Manseng (20%), Chardonnay (27%), Sauvignon Blanc (33%) and Viognier (20%).

The tasting

Nose

The nose authentically expresses the characteristics of each of the grape varieties making up the blend. Sauvignon Blanc elegantly unveils notes of boxwood and fresh mint with great tension and complexity. The fragrances of honey and acacia flowers from Chardonnay mingle with the greedy salinity typical of Gros Manseng as well as the delicate floral notes from Viognier.

Palate

Lively and generous, the palate seduces with its persistence, its rich aromatic expression and its tangy touch.
