Description
A Cotes de Provence Rosé with White Peach Aromas
The story of Chateau de Pampelonne begins in the 19th century, during Napoleon's Italian compaign. During this time Andre Falcon, one of the ancestors of the Gasquet family, was treasurer for the government, and made several trips from his home in Marseilles to Italy, where he would pay the soldiers. In order to have somewhere to rest between Marseille and Italy, he decided to purchase land for his family on the Saint-Tropez peninsula, near the village of Ramatuelle. In 1920, the Gasquet family began planting vines over the 2-hectare property. Over time, the vineyards expanded to cover the 50 hectares we see today in the Cotes de Provence appellation. The Chateau de Pampelonne rosé 2017 is made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, Tibouren and Mourvedre, grown grown in mostly sand soils and enjoying a maritime influence in climate. Half of the grapes were harvested manually and the other half by machine in early hours of the morning to keep the fruit cool and preserve freshness. The grapes were then destemmed, cooled and gently pressed. The must underwent temperature-controlled fermentation on fine lees for 2 months and the wine was stabilized before bottling. The Chateau de Pampelonne rosé 2017 displays a very fine pale pink color in the glass. On the nose, this wine reveals plenty of fresh fruit, most notably stone fruit like white peaches. On the palate, this Provence rosé delivers a very generous freshness, along with a certain elegance and roundness, followed by a persistent finish. This rosé is perfect as an aperitif or paired with Mediterranean cuisine, grilled fish or spicy dishes.
