Description

The complex aromas of a fresh red Grand Cru Classé de Graves

The estate

Château Couhins is first found in archives from the 18th century. This property originally brought together two former Graves wine estates. An integral part of the INRA (National Institute for Agronomic Research) network, Château Couhins has dedicated its know-how and vineyard to viticultural research and innovation.

The vineyard

Today, the Château Couhins vineyard covers 25 hectares planted around the town of Villenave D'Ornon at the gates of Bordeaux. The vines are planted in a mosaic of terroirs, formed by a low outcropping, a clay-limestone base and sandy-gravelly soils. These vines give rise to fine Pessac-Léognan wines.

The vintage

2019 was undoubtedly one of the great vintages of the estate. Winter was mild and dry in the Graves. The summer was hot and dry. This 2019 vintage was characterised by grapes of excellent health and perfect ripeness.

Vinification and ageing

Manual harvest in crates between September 18 and October 14. Gravity vatting. Temperature controlled fermentation at less than 28 ° C. Manual punch-downs, sustainable pour-overs. Maceration adapted to each batch. Maceration between 12 and 29 days. Ageing in barrels for 12 months. New French oak barrels (33%).

The blend

Merlot (54%), cabernet sauvignon (38%), petit verdot (5%), cabernet franc (3%).

Château Couhins 2019: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Colour

This wine displays a dense purple colour.

Nose

On the nose, the bouquet reveals a complex palette of aromas. With ripe fruit, floral notes and smoky touches from ageing in barrels, the nose delivers plenty of complexity and intensity.

Palate

On the palate, the silky tannins show good density. This Classified Growth of Graves stretches into a long and aromatic finish.
