A Luscious and Velvety Napa Valley Cabernet
In 1971, the Wagner family founded Caymus Vineyards, when they decided to produce their own wines from grapes they cultivated on their 73-acre vineyard in Rutherford, instead of selling this fruit to other producers in the area. Their first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon was 1972, and this signature cuvee quickly became an emblem of the Napa Valley region and style. Today the Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of fruit from 8-10 out of Napa's 16 appellations, including Rutherford, Atlas Peak, Howell Mountain, Oak Knoll, Yountville, Wooden Valley, St. Helena and Calistoga. The fruit is cultivated with great care and left on the vine for longer than is typical in Napa Valley, in order to allow the development of tannins and the concentration of aromas in the grapes. The wine is matured in French oak barrels for 12-15 months before bottling.The Caymus Vineyards Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 has a dense and opaque purple color. On the nose, it presents rich and ripe red fruit aromas, including blackberry and cassis, which remain consistent on the palate. This Napa Valley Cabernet is very full-bodied, offering a luscious, velvety mouthfeel, underlined by smooth, well-integrated tannins and a long finish packed with black fruit. This intensely flavored and very pure Cabernet Sauvignon will evolved beautifully in the bottle over the next 15 years or so.
