Description
The Montsecano Pinot Noir is the flagship wine of the Montsecano winery. Produced from a single, seven hectare vineyard from which the wine gets its name. The name Montsecano comes from the French word "Mont" meaning hill, and the Spanish word "Secano" which refers to an arid dry land near the coast. This vineyard is irrigated naturally and does not see the use of any chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or fungicides. The granite subsoil in the vineyard, as well as fermentation in egg shaped concrete tanks lends a very prominent minerality to the wine. After fermentation this wine is aged for ten months in a combination of new and used French barriques to add complexity. The Montsecano Pinot Noir 2012 is medium in body with notes of leather and smoke behind cherry fruit and earth. In 2011, Descorchados Wine Magazine voted the Montsecano as the best Pinot Noir in Chile.
