Montevertine : Toscana 2008

The flagship wine of the estate, the Montevertine is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo, which just a touch of Colorino - a rough approximation of the composition of the estate's vineyards. It is fermented in concrete and then aged for two years in large Slavonian oak barrels. All movement of the wine at Montevertine is done by gravity an the wine is never pumped. The Monteverine is bottled without filtration and left to age a minimum of six additional months. The vines for the Monevertine are primarily found in a single 2.5 hectare parcel that was planted in 1982. This is, despite its Rosso di Toscana status, one of the world's truly great expressions of traditional Chianti Classico.
