The Luca Ferraris Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato comes from Piedmont's newest DOCG introduced in 2011. The DOCG Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato main grape variety is Ruche. Little is known about the origins of this grape variety; although some claim it to be indigenous to the region, others believe it has Burgundian roots. The Luca Ferraris Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato comes from the best exposed vineyard sites in the southwest side of the hills of Monferrato. Fermentation in 54 hectoliter French oak barrels lasts about 20 days, to extract Ruche's distinctive aromas. The Luca Ferraris Ruche di Castagnole displays roses and cherries with a hint of spice and herbs. This easy drinking, food friendly red pairs well with a range of foods; enjoy with red sauces and firm cheeses.
