Description
The Kadette is a second label wine from Kanonkop comprised of at least 50% Pinotage (the percentage varies from vintage to vintage) with the remainder of the blend being from the traditional Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Pinotage is a grape variety that was created in South Africa in 1925 by Abraham Izak Perold by cross breeding Pinot Noir and Cinsault (which was commonly referred to as "Hermitage" at that time). Mr. Perold tried to combine the best qualities of grapes with very opposite characteristics. Cinsault was known for its robust character while Pinot Noir was much more delicate both in flavor and physicality. The Kanonkop Kadette is full bodied with ripe notes of banana and berries. The wine is complex with a soft tannin structure and a lengthy finish.
