Nestled amongst the Italian Alps in northwestern Italy is Enfer d'Arvier, a small subregion of Valle d'Aosta. This area is developing a reputation for producing rustic red wines from the Petit Rouge grape. The amphitheater-shaped site concentrates the heat of the sun, leading to grapes with powerful flavors. The only independent vigneron working on this tiny appellation is Danilo Thomain, whose Valle Aosta Enfer d' Arvier is made from only 1 hectare of Petite Rouge vines. This delightful wine exhibits dark berries and earth with the rustic quality Enfer d' Arvier is known for.
