Chateau Montrose

The vineyards at Château Montrose are planted on Pyrenean gravel mixed with black sand that gives way to iron-rich soil 60 centimeters below the surface. The subsoil consists of a layer of clay and marl.

The Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc (65%, 25%, and 10% respectively) usually ripen remarkably well at Montrose, although they are very late-ripening varieties. In order to take advantage of these highly favorable conditions, Jean-Louis Charmolüe applies traditional vineyard management methods, combined with the best new techniques developed in recent research.
