Description
A fresh, fruity and smooth Pessac-Leognan red wine
Coming from a 20-hectare vineyard in the Pessac-Leognan appellation, Chateau Picque Caillou is located not far from the prestigious Chateau Haut-Brion (located in Talence) at the entrance to Bordeaux in the Merignac commune. Paulin and Isabelle Calvet are at the helm of this estate with terroir that is typical of the appellation. The 25-year-old vines on average take advantage of the gravel soils while the grapes take advantage of the sun, which reflects itself from the soils onto the grapes. Chateau Picque Caillou's red wine boasts a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. The aging is done in barrels (30% in new barrels) for 12 months.
The Chateau Picque Caillou 2010 is an elegant wine with a lovely pedigree and a lot of charm. Aromatic on the nose due to the sunny 2010 vintage, the Picque Caillou 2010 offers a full mouthfeel without being excessively powerful. Vintage after vintage, the chateau’s style places freshness, radiant fruit and smoothness in the mouth at the forefront. A lovely wine made well.
