Description

A powerful and concentrated Second Grand Cru Classé

The producer

Château Pichon Baron, a Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, belongs to the elite of Pauillac Grands Crus, on the left bank of Bordeaux.

The vineyard

A true patchwork of terroirs and ideally located near the Gironde estuary, Château Pichon Baron’s vineyard spreads over 73 hectares of vines which are planted on perfectly drained Medoc gravel soils. The estate’s oldest vines are used to make this appellation’s iconic wine.

The vintage

Unanimously acknowledged as one of the best Bordeaux vintages, the 2010 vintage was characterised by a dry and sunny climate which favoured and enables the grapes to ripen. It can be compared to the 1995 and 2003 vintages due to the grape's light weight and to the 2009 vintage for the slow and regular ripening of the grapes.

The blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (79%)

Merlot (21%).

Chateau Pichon Baron 2010: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Colour

The colour is intense, with purple hues.

Nose

Complex and fine aromas of red and black fruits with toasted nuances are revealed. After airing the wine, the complex aromas evolve towards notes of mint, sweet spices and cocoa.

Palate

Concentrated and precise tannins indicate a rich, powerful and explosive wine on the palate. The finish is long and delicious.

Storage

A beautiful reference, Château Pichon Baron 2010 vintage will travel through time while embodying all the elegance and splendour of fine Pauillac wines.
