Description
Made from 100% Nebbiolo grown in Gattinara in Alto Piemonte, the Antoniolo Gattinara San Francesco is a brilliant expression of both the grape and the soils in which it grows.Antoniolo bottles a trio of single-vineyard Gattinara and the San Francesco is the most elegant of the three. The grapes are harvested by hand in the first half of October and fermented in cement tanks, then aged in enormous wooden barrels for a minimum of two years - further aging in bottle allows the wine to grow into its potential. This San Francesco from the acclaimed 2007 vintage might be more accessible on release, but don't mistake the wine's depth - it will certainly continue to develop and reward patience.
