Description
Anthill Farms Peters Vineyard Syrah 2015: A Cool-Climate Syrah with Black Fruit and Floral Aromas
The Peters Vineyard Syrah 2015 from Anthill Farms is a red wine made of 100% Syrah grapes from Peters Vineyard, located outside of Sebastopol in western Sonoma County, California. The vineyard is farmed by Randy Peters. On these hills, the southern slopes form the northern edge of the Petaluma Gap, which allows plenty of cool, marine air from the Pacific Ocean to flood inland. The cool, foggy vineyard, is planted with Syrah and few Viognier vines, and the grapes experience a delayed ripening, allowing for a gradual development of maturity and great complexity in the finished wines. The 2015 vintage saw lower yields than usual, resulting in higher a higher concentration of aromas and flavors. This Californian cool-climate Syrah was made with partial whole cluster fermentation and handled minimally in the cellar, to allow the true personality of the variety and terroir to shine through.
The Anthill Farms Peters Vineyard Syrah 2015 presents a vibrant, inky purple color in the glass. On the nose, clean and lively red fruit and plum present themselves, along with the floral touches of lavender, mint and violet. On the palate, the fruit seems darker, seamlessly blended with the savory flavors of aged meat, black pepper and black olives. A beautifully balanced wine with endless waves of dark fruit, young tannins and a cool finish.
