Description
A Margaux wine that combines power and delicacy
The estate
A Classified Growth in the Official Classification of 1855, Chateau Palmer is a real star of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. With biodynamic viticulture launched in 2009, Chateau Palmer has chosen to convert the entire vineyard in 2014. Having built its legacy on vintages that have become legendary, Chateau Palmer continues to write its history under the direction of the talented Thomas Duroux.
The vineyard
Upon an exceptional terroir in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde estuary, Chateau Palmer has fairly unusual grape varieties for a Medoc estate, with Merlot given pride of place, supplemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
The wine
Since its launch with the 1998 vintage, the greatly elegant Alter Ego de Palmer is intended as another facet of the expression of Chateau Palmer wines.
The vintage
The 2010 vintage was characterized by particularly good climatic conditions. The vine cycle began slowly, helping to prevent possible damage from spring frosts. Bud burst took place in April and was very even. A cold and rainy period in June slowed down nature's pace and reduced the expected volume. Fortunately, the hot and sunny days of July alternated with cool nights to lend a nice aromatic palette to the fruit. This optimal climate continued until the end of the harvest. This vintage shows fruits marked by water stress, that is to say very small and of great aromatic richness.
The blend
Alter Ego de Palmer 2010 is made from a blend of Merlot (49%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (51%).
The tasting
The strength and power of the 2010 vintage comes across in the 2010 Alter Ego by Palmer, a meticulously crafted wine whose delicacy reveals itself over time.
Service and cellaring
Palmer's Alter Ego 2010 is already a real pleasure on the palate, but this wine will continue to develop its complex aromatic character over many years to come.
